Fuel prices: another sharp increase starting April 1st
According to the new rates, the liter of diesel will increase by 1.70 dirhams, while the’Super Unleaded Petrol will increase by 1.57 dirhams. This development is part of a continuous upward trend fueled by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and disruptions in the global oil market.
With this latest increase, prices are expected to reach significantly higher levels. The price of diesel, which was around 12.80 dirhams per liter after the increase on March 16th, is now expected to be around 14.50 dirhams.
Meanwhile, the price of Super Unleaded gasoline is expected to rise from approximately 13.93 dirhams to nearly 15.50 dirhams per liter. These figures are indicative and may vary slightly depending on the distributor and service station.
This new increase comes amid significant instability in energy markets, marked in particular by persistent tensions in the Middle East and uncertainties surrounding strategic supply routes, especially the Strait of Hormuz. In a system where fuel prices are indexed to international prices of refined products, these fluctuations are quickly reflected in the tariffs applied at the national level.
This continued increase could further erode household purchasing power, already impacted by previous hikes. It also risks leading to higher transport and logistics costs, potentially affecting the prices of many goods and services.
