Here in Morocco I see tacos advertised on many of the local snack shops signage. It drove me crazy because I never see tacos anywhere. My Moroccan man had no idea what they actually were, either. I started thinking, maybe, this is how they referred to a sandwich in Morocco.  It took me nearly 10 months to solve this taco mystery.<\/p>\n

Then, back in July, we were on our way to Marrakech. Just as we were pulling in town, I saw a restaurant that said they served “original French tacos”. \"images\"Ok, now I was confused. Tacos are Mexican… I immediately Googled French tacos. ( Here is a link explaining <\/a>what they are and how they evolved and made their way to Morocco. ) I was amazed at what I found. It looks a bit like the Mexican burrito except that the filling consists of French fries, chicken, meat, dressing, lettuce, tomatoes, onions. Now, this was something we were going to have to try! After all, the Moroccan version of pizza and burgers can’t compare to their American counterparts… and one can eat only so much tagine<\/a>, cusc\u00fas<\/a> or rotisserie chicken.  These staples of Moroccan cuisine can be found everywhere… but, not much else. We definately needed something to break the monotony for our palates.<\/p>\n

Not long after returned home, we tried our first French tacos, here in Agadir. They were exciting because they were so different from anything either of us had eaten before. So, we decided to try tacos at different restaurants. We found that they were offered a bit differently at each place.<\/p>\n

 Some offer only one meat, others offer a combination of meat, chicken and the Moroccan merguez sausage. Some are saucier than others, adding more of the dressing. We have yet to find our absolute favorite, so the search continues…<\/p>\n

Below you can find my recipe for the French taco so, you to try at home. You can add or delete amounts and ingredients to your liking. After all, no 2 snack shops make the same taco!<\/p>\n

\"Our<\/p>\n

FOR 6 TACOS –<\/p>\n

6 large flour tortillas<\/p>\n

1 lb French fries<\/p>\n

1\/2 lb of ground beef<\/p>\n

7-8 chicken breasts diced<\/p>\n

2 or 3 cups of shredded lettuce<\/p>\n

2 or 3 tomatoes cubed<\/p>\n

2 onion diced<\/p>\n

shredded monetery jack cheese (or your favorite)<\/p>\n

French or Russian dressing<\/p>\n

black pepper, salt, granulated garlic<\/p>\n

PREPARATION –<\/p>\n

Prepare your fries. If frozen, bake or fry as you like.<\/p>\n

Cook the ground beef and diced chicken seasoning with salt, pepper, granulated garlic and diced onion (1\/2 onion to each meat)  <\/p>\n

Take 1 tortilla and sprinkle with cheese of choice<\/p>\n

Add the shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, onions and French fries<\/p>\n

Top with 2 ounces of dressing,  give or take<\/p>\n

Add a bit more cheese if you like<\/p>\n

HOW TO MAKE THE TACOS –<\/p>\n

Close taco by folding the upper part towards the area, then the lower part over… turn tacos… then fold the two ends opposite ends over<\/p>\n

Cook immediately in one large frying pan (or grilling in a sandwich machine or Panini maker if you have one)\"DSC01994\"<\/p>\n

Cook a few minutes on each side over medium heat, turning once with a large spatula<\/p>\n
